February 19th “Meet the Riverside County Archivist”

Please join us for an afternoon with the new Riverside County Archivist Jim Hofer:  Jim will overview documents and items that are available at the new County Archives and will also present helpful overviews for locating long lost items of historical interest, such as land deeds and 19th and 20th century printed documents.  Light Refreshments provided by the La Quinta Historical Society.

February 13, 2009 Brown Bag Lunch Series 11:30-1:00 pm

What a great turnout for this event, over 70 people came to the Hwy 111 Brown Bag Series!

The La Quinta Historical Society invites you to attend our February Brown Bag Lunch lecture.  Continuing our look at life in early La Quinta, we’ll take a nostalgic ride down “Highway 111 The Way It Was 1935-1960″.  Our speakers are Joe Rodarte, Jr. & Charles Charles Shibata, descendants of pioneer families who farmed the land along Highway 111.  Bring your brown bag lunch and join us for this unique look into our city’s past.  This event is free & open to the public.

Presidential Pet Talk

The La Quinta Historical Society will offer a free presentation on Presidential Pets of Abraham Lincoln & Teddy Roosevelt on Feb. 12 & Feb 26 at 1:30 p.m. at the La Quinta Museum.  respect for the outdoors.

You are invited to experience the history and philosophy of tea in Japan presented in ceremonial dress by members of the Urasenke School of Tea. Guests will be served sweets and individual bowls of ritual tea (matcha).  Come on to the Museum on Thursday, February 5, from 5 pm to 7 pm.  Fee: $15.00. Reservations limited and required (760) 564-1244 ext. 103.  This event is presented in association with LQAF’s “Tantalizing Teapots” exhibition at La Quinta Museum.
